My second year in Uni I decided to do a semiotic analysis for my essay I hadn t written an essay in something like a decade, and was not used to reading to heavy material It was not until recently when I decided to re visite semiotics for my dissertation that i found this book I really wish I had found this first This is a really good introductory text, it includes a general intro to semiotics and overview of most I think the key theorist He then goes on to sort of case studies of things My second year in Uni I decided to do a semiotic analysis for my essay I hadn t written an essay in something like a decade, and was not used to reading to heavy material It was not until recently when I decided to re visite semiotics for my dissertation that i found this book I really wish I had found this first This is a really good introductory text, it includes a general intro to semiotics and overview of most I think the key theorist He then goes on to sort of case studies of things like disneyland, shopping malls, fahsion and gender etc from what he calls a socio semiotic perspective which looks at the relation between symbolic and material culture This book has ben such a breath of fresh air after struggeling with Baudrillard, Eco and Jameson After reading this, I can now go back to those theorist and actually understand a bit I do not recommend this for someone who is already familiar with semiotics, as it might bore you, just because I feel the subjects he looks at have been analyzed so much before, however you might be inetersted in his socio semiotic perspective
