Not a typical autobiography, but rather this book is exactly what the title states Alex s reflections on things throughout his life At first I was thrown off by the casualness of the writing, I guess I assumed it would beliterary, but after I adjusted to it I really enjoyed the writing style It didn t feel overthought or overworked.

It s odd how similar this is to the unauthorized biography by Lisa Rogak that was released on the same day The number of parallel chapter structures and subjects almost made it feel like someone leaked the outline to Rogak There are not many new revelations, and I had already read many of the books about Jeopardy before I was a contestant in 2019.What this does have that the other book does not insight into a few of the contestants, photographs, a few details about his cancer treatment It s odd how similar this is to the unauthorized biography by Lisa Rogak that was released on the same day The number of parallel chapter structures and subjects almost made it feel like someone leaked the outline to Rogak There are not many new revelations, and I had already read many of the books about Jeopardy before I was a contestant in 2019.What this does have that the other book does not insight into a few of the contestants, photographs, a few details about his cancer treatments After reading this, I can t help but think that Ken Jennings is the anointed one for replacing Alex Both lack much about his stepdaughter, Nicky, who works at Jeopardy I did wonder about the suggestion that hydrogen dioxide from the mines was a cause for many of the cancers in Sudbury That is better known as hydrogen peroxide, not a carcinogen as far as I know Other gaseous discharges are probablylikely And the fact that Alex offered a clarification about what he said about discontinuing treatment makes me think this was rushed to print It was a neat idea to have this release the day before his 80th birthday

I ve always enjoyed celebrity autobiographies memoirs and have read several of them over the years Alex s is a standout to me because of how it s formatted chapter titles are presented in the typical Jeopardy question or answer format, and he takes us not step by step through his life but on little journeys from anecdote to anecdote I ll admit some bias considering my obsession with the quiz show, but this memoir made me laugh and honestly made me tear up a couple of times as well Alex is I ve always enjoyed celebrity autobiographies memoirs and have read several of them over the years Alex s is a standout to me because of how it s formatted chapter titles are presented in the typical Jeopardy question or answer format, and he takes us not step by step through his life but on little journeys from anecdote to anecdote I ll admit some bias considering my obsession with the quiz show, but this memoir made me laugh and honestly made me tear up a couple of times as well Alex is a beautiful person with a giving attitude despite his cancer diagnosis and has many wonderful things to say about his family, about former contestants on the show, and about what is left of his life I ll be reading this again when my hard copy comes in the mail, and then I ll probably listen to the audiobook read by Alex and Ken Jenningsagain, I m obsessed But only because Jeopardy is important to me, and part of that is certainly thanks to Alex Best wishes to him
