Two young girls, one with a Penelope Princess doll and the other with a Penny the Secret Agent doll, find a way to play happily together in this entertaining picture book examination of childhood games of make believe Brought together on a play date, the two girls seem at first, through their dolls, not to appreciate one another s style, but eventually they see that both princesses and secret agents can do fun thingsHaving enjoyed author Dan Richards earlier picture book, Can One Balloon Two young girls, one with a Penelope Princess doll and the other with a Penny the Secret Agent doll, find a way to play happily together in this entertaining picture book examination of childhood games of make believe Brought together on a play date, the two girls seem at first, through their dolls, not to appreciate one another s style, but eventually they see that both princesses and secret agents can do fun thingsHaving enjoyed author Dan Richards earlier picture book, Can One Balloon Make an Elephant Fly , which also features the imaginative life of a child, I picked up Penny and Penelope with a happy sense of anticipation I was not disappointed, appreciating both the fun and games in the story, and the larger message about girls and girl dolls being able to enjoy lots of different kinds of adventures The artwork from Claire Almon is colorful and cute, and I appreciated the fact that the girls were depicted as being Asian American and African American, as I find that most stories featuring cross cultural cross racial friendships usually depict at least one of the children as Euro American Recommended to all young children who enjoy games involving dolls and or lots of imagination

I really enjoyed this book I tells the story of two girls with two different play styles One has a princess doll and the other has an action doll They start of fighting but by the end they see how there is not right way to play with dolls I would recommend as a one on one story for elementary children due to the small illustrations.

  8. Jeri Goins says:

Love it Princesses are tough and secret agents need help sometimes Let s not get stuck in our boxes And little brothers can play dolls, too

  9. Amanda says:

Stretched out a bit too long and tried a bit too hard.

  10. Alicia Evans says:

Two little girls have a play date with their dolls, but Penny and Penelope are very different characters We see each girl struggle at first accepting the other s style, but then they realize that they can have a lot of fun together I love that this celebrates imagination, girl power, and all types of beauty Nicely done. For readers who love imagination and play readers looking for an exciting book about girl power readers looking for a diverse book.Possible red flags characters in peril.
