I didn t expect this novel to be written for a middle grade audience While the main character Ethan is a teenager, the language was very simple, the font was large, there was no character growth, and the story was very simple I think this novel is aimed at reluctant male readers There was no violence, romance, or swearing, so it would be suitable for grades 6 to 8 This was a quick but unfulfilling read for me a reader in my 20s.

The Island, written by D.A Graham, is a modern day rendition of Gary Paulsen s famous novel, Hatchet Join Ethan on his journey of participating in a reality show about teen survival, where he and nine others are left on a deserted island where their survival skills will be put to the ultimate test A very interesting read, sure to hook many readers
