I love learning a new to me craft and this book makes me want to start uilling With just a few simple tools the author shows the reader now to begin creating beautiful and fun designs Projects range from simple reuiring just a few basic uill shapes to complex allowing the crafter to choose a project that suits their skill level and desired complexity Instructions are clearly written and are accompanied by photographic illustrations of each step Colors chosen for the samples are bright and make for appealing projects of a range of types I appreciated that the author includes not only instructions for making someof the tools yourself but also the use of found objects Erin Perkins Curet has made uilling an approachable art formThank you to uarto Publishing Group – uarry and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review

I have been interested in uilling for uite some time and Erin Perkins Curet’s book has inspired me to give it a try The Art of Modern uilling Contemporary Paper Techniues and Projects for Captivating uilled Designs is an excellent book for beginners and those advanced in the art of uillingCuret begins by explaining all the different materials and tools For some she suggests finding things already in your home In fact when Curet began uilling she only used things from around her house Since she is self taught she says she does uilling a bit differently than others which I think is a very good thing I have looked at many different uilling books over the years and have even collected a few but this is the book I was needing to start this craft The Art of Modern uilling sort of replicates how Curet actually learned to uill by going through projects seuentially — each project builds on the previous one In fact the projects were chosen specifically to have you develop a skill and then use and master it We begin by learning the basic shapes needed for all the projects While there are about 12 shapes Curet explains and shows in close up large photographs they all begin with an open coil From there they proceed to either a teardrop or maruis and then continue from there by means of pinching She recommends making a board of all the shapes as a good resource to have She offers some great tips along the way like how to eliminate the crimp in the center of a coil Curet really makes the reader feel that they can actually make all these different shapes with ease and I think part of that comes from her thorough instructions She has a friendly and encouraging way about her that really reassure the reader that they can do thisFor all 15 projects Curet walks you through every step of the way with both text and close up photos We begin with the most adorable wine glass charms and then it’s on to make a delightful butterfly mobile I loved how she incorporates two different colors in each coil for the butterflies something I hadn’t seen before Curet even shows you how to make the mobile “hardware” or hanging rods out of paper cardstock There are many other interesting and useful things to make in this book lincluding earrings a necklace candle holders coasters a wall clock and even a whale media holder for your phoneWhile I always wanted to try my hand at uilling is that a pun I was a little intimidated by the elaborate projects I’ve seen people make But with this book I feel ready and able to start rolling up paper I will definitely be buying this bookThank you to uarto Publishing Group uarry Books and NetGalley for an advance reader e copy in exchange for my honest review

Not my Grandma's uilling I was always intrigued by her uilling delicately rolling thin papers and glueing them onto paper to make a picture It was not an easy task This book has maybe one craft that I could attempt I had no idea you could do so many creative things with uilling Not sure if I will take this up but the book was fun to look at and reminisce about my Grandma

I received a copy of The Art of Modern uilling through NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review The Art of Modern uilling was an absolutely fantastic read I’ve always been fascinated by paper uilling but to be honest I’ve also felt intimidated by it This guide made the whole task of learning a lot less intimidating and comfortable And it had the added bonus of inspiring me at the same time While reading the instructions for some of the tutorials I couldn’t help but think of how I could apply these basic skills to other projects and ideas This is exactly what one hopes to get when reading an art book so I couldn’t have been happier This book covers a little bit of everything you’ll need to get started on paper uilling From the basics like the tools how to seal your projects this is paper we’re talking about – if you want them to last you have to seal them different types of paper that can be used and how they’ll look and even how to make your own stripes of paper for uilling The basics were even useful than I expected From there the book went on to covering basic techniues in paper uilling Each basic was shown with a lot of detail I love that they made a point of showing how each techniue could be applied to a project It really helped put two and two together for me I can’t wait to get started on some of my own uilling projects now I have so many different ideas to run with For reviews check out uirky Cat's Fat Stacks

The Art of Modern uilling by Erin Perkins Curet is for the serious uiller or a beginner who thinks that this may be the art form for them There is an extensive list and explanation of the many supplies used in uilling at the beginning of the book This seemed taunting for me a novice at uilling Still the author does a great job going over it all explaining items that are not going to be used in the book projects tooFrom there the book goes to the basics which are clearly described with excellent photographs If the supply list was taunting the basics were encouraging making me itch to get started practicing I must say what interested me in reuesting this book to review was the hope to make uilled cards While I did get some ideas for those this is not that kind of book It is creating art using the uilling techniues Art such as jewelry to a wall clock to making youe own stacked forms There are also how tos for making your own molds or stacked forms The Art of Modern uilling is an extremely interesting read The photographs are close ups with detailed instructions Not sure if I will ever tackle the mandala wall clock but if I did there are step by step instructions The basics were useful but most projects were too elaborate for this crafter even though the description read otherwise45 StarsThe publisher through Net Galley provided an ARC I have voluntarily decided to read and review giving my personal opinions and thoughts

Received an ARC via NetGalley This book has beautiful photography She is a self taught uilling artist She tells the reader she uses some of her own techniues because they are easier to her than the traditionalaccepted ways She gives detailed lists of tools and how to do the individual shapes She shows uite a few projects that you can do with a couple pretty small and simple crafts and some large and very ornate Very good book on subject from a reviewer who has never uilled correct word anything in her life
