Trekking Beyond Walk the World’s Epic Trails features the inviting photographs of Alex Treadwell though three authors also write invitingly even deliciously of trailss I would like to visit or revisit in the next couple years or so including The Nordic Trails in Sweden Norway and Finland Of course I’d like to hike again anywhere in the Alps; I’ve definitely set a goal to walk the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain a bucket list item Wow there are a lot of beautiful trails in this book which a friend recommended to me Bill Bryson would also advocate as they do for the Appalachian Trial it’s been a while for me and I only hiked two different parts of it and Cheryl Strayed would concur with their suggestion to trek The Pacific Crest Trail of course Winter is the time to plant the seeds of wanderlust of course And wandering on foot An enticing book

I go to nature to be soothed and healed and to have my senses put in order John Burroughs The men in my family are in love with long hikes in the woods sometimes on man made trails and sometimes just exploring on their own I initially bought this book for my husband but I fell in love with the gorgeous photography and then ended up reading it Now than ever I am inspired to take a family trip to some of these famous hiking trails The essays are well written and informative We had done some hiking in beautiful Scotland highlands and it made me want to go back The book covers famous long distance walkshikes around the world USA Zion National Park Hawaii both the Muliwai trail and Kalalau trail Appalachian trail Europe The Haute Route India Himalayas South America Inca trail Fitz Roy trek Andes and many other countries I really enjoyed the way this book was designed and laid out for the reader It was very thoughtfully done I highly recommend it for inspiration for your next trip Over 200 excellent photos in color

The blurb promises stunning photography and it is absolutely breathtaking I lost count of the number of ‘Oh wow’ moments I was particularly wowed by the scenery in Europe India and Canada Initially the inaccuracies in the writing annoyed me A dale is a valley not a hill and William Wordsworth didn’t ever take opium The author thought he was being witty but witty only works when you get your facts right I only skim read the rest of the descriptions partly because of that but mainly because most of the treks are familiar to me so I didn’t really need to read them and also because I didn’t want to waste any time reading that I could spend looking at the fantastic photographs This would be a great present for a keen walkerWith thanks to NetGalley and White Lion Publishing for a free review copy

Trekking Beyond is a beautiful book that will have you packing your hiking boots and making plane reservationsI’ve been lucky enough to do several of the long hikes described in Trekking Beyond including Kilimanjaro parts of the Everest Base Camp trail the Pacific Crest and the Inca Trail I’ve got definite plans for others described in the book But this is a book to stir wanderlust in anyone’s heart This look book” is intended to whet the appetite It is no substitute for the planning guides of anyone serious about walking the trails But what a “look book” it is The beautiful photography and tempting descriptions of these walks is mouth watering I was doubly pleased to be introduced to some new trails as well as being reminded of some old favoritesI voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book All thoughts and opinions are my own

I suppose on many bucket lists mine included is the aspiration to visit and and trek some of the incredible places contained in this collection of the world's most famous and iconic walking destinations I sadly assume that for the majority of us those bucket list wish items will remain unfulfilled but if that is sadly the case we now have the consolation of being taken on a journey via the stunning and gorgeous collection of over 200 images found in this book This in many ways represents the archetypal coffee table book with the truly sumptuous photographs by leading photographer Alex Treadway complimented by expert narratives provided by leading trekkers Billi Bierling Dave Costello and Damian Hall Along with the photographs there are maps charting the routesCovered here are treks that range from a day to half a year On some you will encounter many fellow trekkers and others you will not see anyone for days We learn of treks that can be comfortably tackled by a novice and those to be attempted only by the most experienced With trekking routes taken from across the world from mountains to canyons from coastal paths to forests there is a whole variety of vistas to be seen Just to name a few the following destinations are covered The Appalachian Trail The Great Wall of China Kilimanjaro and the Inca Trail If these destinations seem too exotic and out of reach there are treks covered that are nearer to home including the The West Highland WayIf you want to spend a couple of hours losing yourself in the wonders of the natural world that this book will be for you

Trekking BeyondWalks across the world's epic trailsby Dave Costello Billi Bierling Damian Hall Gorgeous Photos Made this couch potato almost want to get fit enough to trek some of the trails mentioned in this book In addition to the beautiful photos each trail and area is discussed with information including distances to be covered historical information what might be seen days it takes to cover the distance and As I looked at the photos and read about the locations and history I thought of characters in novels and movies as well as historical figures that no doubt would have trekked the trails of this book This is a book I would love to have as an addition to my library Thank you to NetGalley and uarto Publishing Group – White Lioin Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review 5 Stars
