There is certainly much adventure to be had in The Pearl It s a breathtaking tale featuring a great blend of fantasy and mythology with the added incentive of a brewing romance between main characters Elearah and Mika It was a refreshing read with many surprising twists and an array of memorable characters. When I first started reading The Pearl, I didn t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by its imaginative nature Martinez certainly knows how to capture the reader s attention There is certainly much adventure to be had in The Pearl It s a breathtaking tale featuring a great blend of fantasy and mythology with the added incentive of a brewing romance between main characters Elearah and Mika It was a refreshing read with many surprising twists and an array of memorable characters. When I first started reading The Pearl, I didn t know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by its imaginative nature Martinez certainly knows how to capture the reader s attention It s definitely a great read for fantasy lovers who want to escape into a magical world.I found a things a little disorienting that caused me to pull out of the story at times, though, this was not a regular occurrence Some of the action scenes were a little hard to follow due to how they were executed mostly wording , and while I did grasp the general idea of what was taking place, I had to re read these segments, so I could formulate a picture in my head But, as I said, this was a rare occurrence The other issue was that there was a language discrepancy where diction is concerned For most of the story, we have an archaic diction, which is well suited for this Tolkien esque folklore, but every now and then there seems a slight intrusion of a modern English diction that doesn t seem as if it belongs within the presence of this tale Having said that, the story moves along at a very fluid pace and there is a lot of action happening that it s easy to jump right back into the story.I really enjoyed the story and were it not for the syntactic and semantic errors that popped up in places, it would have excelled evenFor that reason, I give it a 3.5 star

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review. The Pearl was an interesting read It started off a little slow and is off the path from what I generally read in fantasy, but I very much enjoyed the story This tale has an oriental flavor to it There are gods, dragons and even vampires, which I usually skip, but altogether it was an enjoyable read The characters were well done and I didn t even mind the vampires The writing was decent, the author has a good voice and the tale was I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair review. The Pearl was an interesting read It started off a little slow and is off the path from what I generally read in fantasy, but I very much enjoyed the story This tale has an oriental flavor to it There are gods, dragons and even vampires, which I usually skip, but altogether it was an enjoyable read The characters were well done and I didn t even mind the vampires The writing was decent, the author has a good voice and the tale was told well. The only real drawback to this book is that the version I received could have used quite a bit of editing Some mistakes were made over and over e.g where instead of were comes to mind because I noticed it so often If this book had been properly edited I would have given it four stars Despite the editing problems, it was a charming tale Love, dragons, kingdoms, war, gods and demons the whole lot wrapped up in an entertaining shell So there you have it If you enjoy fantasy then you may very well enjoy The Pearl and it is priced economically so all there is to gain is a good story. That s all for today I read several books over the Thanksgiving holiday here in the U.S and have plenty to share I took some time away for family, but will be getting those reviews posted in the next week I hope everyone has a good book handy and time to read it over the weekend. This review was originally posted on my blog and is worded as such,

The work of a storyteller Who or what is The Pearl I was fascinated by the incredibly detailed descriptions that made me feel as though I could see, touch, hear and smell everything this band of travellers experienced I could easily visualise all the interesting characters and quickly gained a sense of their life and purpose This is a world inhabited by a tremendous range of nice and nasty creatures. What of Pearl though Ahh not so easy We get to understand, and eventually come to know Pea The work of a storyteller Who or what is The Pearl I was fascinated by the incredibly detailed descriptions that made me feel as though I could see, touch, hear and smell everything this band of travellers experienced I could easily visualise all the interesting characters and quickly gained a sense of their life and purpose This is a world inhabited by a tremendous range of nice and nasty creatures. What of Pearl though Ahh not so easy We get to understand, and eventually come to know Pearl in bits and pieces of information fed to us rather teasingly by this fine author, this wonderfully gifted storyteller, Sandra Martinez Pearl comes to life gradually throughout this magical adventure and she is well worth waiting for. This is a fun, romantic story with a touch of darkness and treachery It moves along quickly and doesn t really allow you to put it down, so perhaps get comfy before you start As a fellow author who beta read this story, I highly recommend it to fans of fantasy and to anyone wishing to give the fantasy genre a whirl
