One of the godawful worst books I ve ever forced myself to read It was so bad it has me looking at the other books on my Kindle wondering What if that s as bad as Candlewood Lake I can t decide what to read next This book s come close to turning me off reading entirely There s not one redeeming character in the book, each one deserves the little slice of hell they ve ordered they make stupid decisions Ignore facts glaringly in evidence Towards the end we re treated to several chapters of One of the godawful worst books I ve ever forced myself to read It was so bad it has me looking at the other books on my Kindle wondering What if that s as bad as Candlewood Lake I can t decide what to read next This book s come close to turning me off reading entirely There s not one redeeming character in the book, each one deserves the little slice of hell they ve ordered they make stupid decisions Ignore facts glaringly in evidence Towards the end we re treated to several chapters of will they, won t they where Eve and Justin play out this B movie just missed the important bit over and over Worst of all you KNOW what s going to happen Everything in this book isn t just telegraphed it s delivered via singing telegram with balloons If you ve ever watched any soap opera for a few weeks you probably could write a book like this Upper middle class family moves into a typical affluent Connecticut town, there s always the blue collar section necessary to support those withmoney And before anyone says anything, I spent the first 25 years of my life in a small Connecticut town There s the daughter of the moneyed family falling for, with her parents tacit approval, the upper middle class son and suddenly just has to be there for another friend, the boy from the wrong side of the tracks whose mother has problems and ended her life tragically Comforting her friend she forgets her love for her other friend and marries, oddly to the approval of the girl s parents Being a jock hero in small towns gets a lot of sins overlooked Blah It s so utterly, horribly predictable Happiness, tragedy, approach happiness, wrongful assumption, tragedy over and over until the inevitable happy, after tragedy, ending. The author plays with time in a horrible way, you never know if it s the 70 s, 80 s or some point in between At one point it appears a large amount of time has passed but pages later time has been shrunk to fit the story into the storyline The narration readslike blocking notes for a play The dialog is awful No one talks like this Okayay is NOT a word I was hoping for a coming of age story set just 40 odd miles from where I was born and raised An area we visited on weekends and camped in for week long trips That changed to a growing up and spreading your wings story The beginning wasn t horrible, I hoped the author would get her sea legs and take ahold of the story but it never happened It gets worse the deeper into the book you get There s almost nothing of the hometown feel of a small Connecticut town except for the vicious gossip circles So much could have brought life to a dead story but was left by the wayside. Not a book I d recommend, to anyone, even to someone I didn t like

Kept me turning the pages ad fast as I could So many stories and misunderstandings, the background really sets the scene for the future and the characters become dear to you

Honestly, the only reason I kept reading this book was because I m from New Fairfield and I liked seeing the references to the town Other than that, it was poorly written and overly dramatic The book tended to jump from year to year without any indication to what year it actually was, save for a few important events so and so was born on, so and so died onetc
